Once upon a time, a princess lived in a large castle. She liked to play with her golden ball.

One day she played near a deep well. She threw her ball up.

The ball fell into the well. “Oh no!” said the princess. “My ball is gone!”

A frog came out of the water. “Why are you sad?” asked the frog.

“My ball fell into the well,” said the princess. “I cannot get it back.”

“I can help you,” said the frog. “You must promise to be my friend.”

“I promise to be your friend,” said the princess. “Please get my ball.”

The frog jumped into the water. Soon he came back with the golden ball.

The princess took her ball. She ran back to the castle. She did not wait for the frog.

That night there was a knock at the door. The princess opened the door.

“Princess, princess, let me in,” said the frog. “You made a promise to be my friend.”

The princess was afraid. She went to her father, the king.

“You must keep your promise,” said the king. “Let the frog come in.” The princess let the frog come in.

The princess sat with the frog. She was kind and kept her promise. Then the frog turned into a prince.

“Thank you for keeping your promise,” said the prince. The prince and the princess were friends. They lived happily together.
