Once upon a time, a boy named Jack lived with his mother. They were very poor. They only had one cow.

One day Jack’s mother said, “We must sell the cow so we can buy food.” So Jack walked to town with the cow.

On the road Jack met a man. The man had five shiny beans. “These are magic beans,” he said.

Jack took the beans. He gave the man the cow. Jack went home with the beans.

Jack showed his mother the beans. His mother was angry. She threw the beans out of the window.

The next morning there was a giant beanstalk. The beanstalk reached high into the clouds. The beans were magic!

Jack climbed the tall beanstalk. Higher and higher he climbed. Soon he reached a land above the clouds.

There was a huge castle. A giant lived inside the castle. Jack hid behind a door.

Soon the giant came home and shouted, “Fee, fi, fo, fum! I smell a little boy!” Jack stayed hidden.

Soon the giant fell fast asleep. Jack took a bag of gold. Then he climbed down the beanstalk.

Jack gave the gold to his mother. Jack and his mother were very happy!

Jack climbed the beanstalk again. This time he found a hen. The hen laid golden eggs.

Jack gave the hen to his mother. Jack and his mother were very happy!

Jack climbed the beanstalk again. This time he found a golden harp. The harp sang beautiful music.

Jack took the harp, but it started to sing. The giant woke up! “Fee, fi, fo, fum! I smell a little boy!”

Jack climbed down the beanstalk quickly. The giant chased after him. “Mother! Get the axe!” Jack shouted.

Jack chopped down the beanstalk. The giant fell far away. Jack and his mother were very happy!
