In the hills of a faraway forest, a goat lived alone. She was small but clever, with sharp eyes and quick feet.

One sunny afternoon, the goat climbed a rocky path to look for sweet grass.

Suddenly, she heard a growl. A tiger stepped onto the trail, licking his lips.

“Ah,” said the tiger. “I was hoping for lunch.”

The goat’s heart raced, but she stayed calm. “You don’t want to eat me,” she said.

“Why not?” asked the tiger. “You look tasty.”

The goat smiled. “Because I’m the king’s pet. He feeds me royal berries and golden oats.”

The tiger blinked. “The king’s pet?”

“Yes,” said the goat proudly. “And he gave me a bell so he always knows where I am.”

The tiger looked at the shiny bell around her neck. “It does look fancy.”

“If you touch me,” said the goat, “the king’s guards will hear. They’ll come with spears and fire.”

The tiger took a step back. “Fire?” he asked.

“Oh yes,” said the goat. “And dogs. Big ones. They love tiger meat.”

The tiger growled nervously. “Maybe I should find another meal.”

“Good idea,” said the goat. “There’s a deer down the path. Much fatter than me.”

The tiger turned and ran into the trees, leaving a trail of dust.

When he was gone, the goat laughed and skipped down the path.

She reached her home and told her story to the birds.

“Next time,” she said, “I’ll wear a bigger bell.”

And from that day on, the forest called her: the goat who tricked a tiger—with only her words.
