Long ago, in a quiet forest, lived a white elephant and his blind mother. His skin was bright as snow, and his heart was full of kindness. He cared for his mother every day.
Each morning, he searched for fruits and leaves. He carried them back with his trunk and laid them beside her gently. He always spoke in a calm, loving voice.
One day, the elephant heard someone crying. He followed the sound and saw a man sitting by a rock. The man looked tired and thin.
The elephant walked over and asked softly, “Are you hurt?” The man looked up in surprise. “I am lost,” he said. “I have no food or water.”
“Come with me,” said the elephant. “I will help you.” He gave the man fruit and led him to water. Then he walked him to the edge of the forest and pointed the way to the city.
“You saved me,” said the man. “I will never forget you.” But as he reached the city, a new idea came to him. “That white elephant is rare,” he thought. “The king would pay me well.”
He told the king, “A white elephant lives deep in the forest. He is gentle and wise.” The king was curious. He sent his men to find it. They tied ropes and brought the elephant to the palace.
The white elephant did not fight. But he looked sad. “Who will feed my mother now?” he asked in a quiet voice. Nobody answered.
At the palace, the elephant refused to eat. He stood still in the garden, his eyes full of sorrow. The king noticed.
The king came to see him. “Why won’t you eat?” he asked. The elephant bowed his head. “My blind mother is alone. She waits for me. I care for her.”
The king was silent for a moment. Then he said, “You are more noble than many men I know.”
He gave the order at once: “Return this elephant to the forest. And every week, bring food to his mother.”
The white elephant walked home with joy in his steps. When his mother heard his feet, she smiled wide. She knew he had come back.
From that day on, the king called him: The White Elephant with the Golden Heart.
